DURATION OF TOUR:
5 DAYS AND 4 NIGHTS

Overview
We recommend the Deluxe Tour for travellers that prefer more comfort at unique hotels with amazing locations and extra amenities.

Travelling in nature around South America requires adapting to places with less urban impact and among the natural reserves, this is protected to preserve habitat as wilderness and rural village regions.
In Patagonia, outside the few small cities and villages, there is the vast outdoors of the cattle ranches and the fjords with jagged snow and glacier mountains.
You travel into a wild and natural land, still pristine, with its unpredictable climate, long distances to travel.

A classic Road Trip is the everyday adventure, and definitely not a full-relax resort vacation.

With the deluxe option we are able to offer “the best of both worlds”: travelling to far-out places but with the most comfort, gastronomy and amenities possible at your lodge.

ARRIVAL TO PUNTA ARENAS, RECEPTION AND VISIT

Reception at airport of Punta Arenas (PUQ) by driver/guide. Please note: flight arrival must be no later than early afternoon to be able to complete the day program.

Transfer towards Punta Arenas with stop at the Nao Victoria Musem. On the shore of the Strait of Magellan, visit the life-size replica of Magellan's Vessel and the mithical Beagle of Darwin's voyage. After 20km arrival to the downtown of Punta Arenas. We visit the Maggiorino Borgatello Etnocultural Museum: extensive collection of native tribe's artifacts and the glorious exploration history of Patagonia. Our next stop is at the Mirador de la Cruz, a belvedere from which you can admire the city from the top and the Strait of Magellan. Right here we invite you for an appetizer and cocktail (non-alcoholic available) at the Yegua Loca. Visit to the cormorant dock and Check-in at HOTEL CABO DE HORNOS located at the Plaza de Armas. Optional dinner is reserved at the restaurant of the hotel.

Entrance fees to museums or visits are not included. Museums are closed on mondays. In alternative, if museums are not available, the program is done with more extensive visits to the city.

Please note: for small groups our standard program does not include meals on first day and does not include dinners. However our driver/guide can suggest and book restaurant reservations. We also offer the upgrade to Full Board if requested.

Day 2
Day 2

Magdalena penguin island (available from september to march), Cerro Negro Ranch and Scenic Roadtrip to Puerto Natales.

Early morning (6.30am) you reach by foot the nearby navigation agency to get the transfer to the Laredo dock for navigation to Magdalena Island, penguin sanctuary.

The visit consists of landing at island after 40 minute navigation. The island is a natural reserve park with a lighthouse and park ranger shelter.

On the island we are free to visit for one hour. There is a path with thousands of free-roaming Magellan penguins and several species of birds nesting and living here.

The tour may also include an approach to Marta Island where Sea Lions live, possible if navigating conditions are good. Return to dock around 11.30am.

We continue our trip towards Puerto Natales (230km), with possible scenic stops on the vast "pampa" or tundra, where we find some scattered ranches.

We stop for lunch around 2pm, at the Cerro Negro ranch. This is an authentic pioneers ranch that hosts a complete lunch with appetizers and dessert and the main course of the traditional lamb on the stake, all you can eat and all you can drink, with quality chilean wines and beverages. Also available menu for vegetarians.

After lunch the gauchos (patagonian cowboys) offer a glance to their daily work with the sheep. We are given a shearing demonstration and description of the quality of the raw wools and the ranch production. Later, we also can admire the work of the horse-riding gaucho with the shepherd dogs that drive the flock to the stable. We then continue our trip to Puerto Natales, arriving around 5.00pm.
Check-in at HOTEL COSTA AUSTRALIS.

This day includes meals: breakfast and lunch at ranch.
Dinner is optional at hotel or some favorites around town.

Day 3
Day 3

Scenic Fjord navigation to Serrano/Balmaceda glaciers

At 7.00am* transfer to Puerto Bories (10 minute drive). Embark on catamaran ferry for navigation on the Señoret channel.

The navigation is steady for one hour entering more the fjord northbound in direction to the Balmaceda mountain. You may stay outside for a chilly experience or at warm inside the cabin of the vessel. The staff will invite you a warm tea or coffee with cookies. There is an on board guide that speaks in spanish and english.

Around 9.30-10am you arrive to the O'higgins natural reserve and dock to have a short walk of 15 minutes through a Patagonian forest to reach the lagoon of the Balmaceda glacier and time to experience the area. There is also a path that follows the stream outlet to the fjord, which is a splendid walk through this austral pristine environment.

Around 11.00am you start your way back to Puerto Bories and your transfer to the hotel in Puerto Natales.

Optional: upgrade for lunch during the tour upon request and subject to confirmation.

Return to hotel COSTA AUSTRALIS.

This day includes meals: breakfast. Does not include lunch or dinner.

Day 4

Fullday Torres del Paine Scenic Tour with early morning at Sarmiento Lake.

The distance from Puerto Natales to the park's gate at Laguna Amarga is approx. 1.5 hours (90km).

We have 2 short walks planned:

1.) Salto Grande waterfall: walk on a path approx. 1/2 km to the waterfall, rugged terrain in a "wind tunnel". This area is often beaten by strong winds that sweep from the Lake Noordenskjold to the Lake Pehoe through the glacier water channel that leaps of the "salto grande". If favored by you, there is an extended version. The longer hike proceeds further from the waterfall to the Mirador de los Cuernos (view-point of the Paine Horns). This requires another 1 hour walk back and fourth to the Noordenskjold Lake's Mirador de los Cuernos.

2.) Grey Glacier Lake walk along the shore: this is a 1km walk at its shortest or 3.5km walk at its longest. Be prepared for heavy winds and ever changing weather. Walk over a hanging bridge that swings... then a short walk across an ancient forest of Coigues trees. You appear from above the long shore line of the lake perhaps with floating glaciers near the beach. If you like, you can walk to the end of the beach and take a small path that climbs the side of a small rock hill at the cape of it there is a mirador from which you can admire the full length of the Grey Lake. This complete walk in its extended version is about 2 hours.

Lifestyles options:

Early Bird Fullday: Pickup at 5.00am. This early start is to improve chances of Puma sightings (which are usually rare).

Also suggested for photo-enthusiasts.

Allows us to arrive to the Sarmiento Lake at a moment of day with a special light and tranquillity. We avoid the column of tour buses on the road and traffic at the entrance of the park. The plan of the day is to visit the park's authorized areas along and around the scenic park road with its iconic landmarks and hiking paths. Early start also allows extended time on the paths visited during the tour.

Please note: The road inside the park is dirt and gravel. It has several gates through which we can enter the park, although normally we go to Laguna Amarga Gate. If possible the tour is flexible according to your preferences also it may vary subject to Patagonia and remote areas unpredictability.

Your guide will consider options based on safety and time plan as to which paths can be considered as safe at the time of the tour, relative to road, weather and wind conditions.

Relax Fullday: Pickup at 8.30am. The same itinerary is done but there may be a larger presence of other tourists at the sightseeing places. The long hike to Mirador de Los Cuernos is not possible.

The tour itinerary also includes the following main sites:

- Lago Sarmiento
- Laguna Amarga
- Mirador de las Torres
- Laguna de los Cisnes
- Lago Noordenskjold
- Salto Grande
- Lago Pehoe (picnic here if possible)
- Salto Chico
- Rio Paine
- Rio Pingo
- Lago and Rio Grey
- Rio Serrano
- Lago Toro

Optional: visit to the Milodon's Cave. This place is at 30km from Puerto Natales. If interested, we can stop on the way back from the Torres del Paine tour. Please note this means dedicating one hour to this visit instead of Paine park.

Return to Puerto Natales and arrival to hotel Patagonia around 5-6pm.

This day includes meals: breakfast and lunch at either restaurant (according to availability): Grey Lake, Hosteria Pehoe, Rio Serrano. If you prefer, also possible picnic at Lake Pehoe. Does not include dinner.

Return to Punta Arenas for flight out

The service for this day is private transfer to Punta Arenas Airport (PUQ), according to flight schedule.

On our way to the airport, we can stop half-way at Villa Tehuelches if you like a coffee, snack or quick lunch.

End of services. This day includes meals: breakfast. Does not include lunch or dinner.

We can add to the travel plan the local flights such as:
