The driver/guide is bolivian from Uyuni. He does not speak english, but our drivers are tourism-oriented and will assist you in anything you need, and it is a norm for us/them to travel for days with spanish non-speaking visitors. We have acknowledged how, statistically, many visitors that do not speak spanish, do not opt for the guide, and they do not have difficulties during the tour, anyway. Why? I offer and sell this tour, because I have been for many years a mountain guide and also a guide on this same tour. In my experience, I have understood: 1. The Uyuni tour is a panoramic, "feeling" tour. The places visited are so vast and impressive, that usually visitors... want to be left alone, to wander around the lagoons, relax, and connect to the nature in peace and quiet. With the driver waiting, by the car. Even when the guide is present, perhaps it is more for talking in the car, during the travel, but no so much needed in the sites visited. 2. Logistics info: the situations in which you really need to be translated are limited. The procedures of customs and frontiers are done with a "hostess" that leads you thru this. 3. If you like a more "technical info" approach, we absolutely understand that. That is why we offer the extra french or english speaking guide. This has an extra of $250 usd to the tour. The private tour is all included. You may leave your wallet in San Pedro! Except for the drinks during the dinners in hotel, those are literally the only not included. For the rest, once you start the tour, you will not be asked to pay for anything.
there are 6 passengers total + driver. The car is a toyota landcruiser, with 3 rows of seats: 1 passenger goes in front next to driver 3 passengers in the 2nd row 2 passengers in the 3rd row (this is a tigher space, with reclinable seats to go in/out of car All passengers rotate their seat, in order for everyone to have the chance to seat in front and not always in the last row, which is the most uncomfortable.
Yes. Please note: whatever option you choose, this tour is an extreme environment tour, in wild and remote non-urbanized areas, dirt trails for most of the trip, usually in bad conditions, located at high altitude. You will be crossing mountain passes above 4300 meters, with a peak up to 4800 meters. And lets not forget it is Bolivia! :) A traditional rural country. Relatively under-developed. But thats the beauty of it. This, however means: the tour is tough, the private tour makes it the most comfortable, possible to be in these amazing territories. The rustic tour is a backpackers tour. The hostels used are basically mountain shelters with no comfort, shared rooms, no heating and shared baths. Sometimes, also the hot water may linger. The energy is produced with diesel generators. I suggest this tour, more for young people, that are more enthusiast about facing these hardships. The rustic tour, even if it is 4 days, it is actually a 3 days tour, since the last day you wake up at 5am to be at frontier by 9am and San Pedro by noon. While in the private tour, you can enjoy fully as a panoramic trip, also the 4th day. Without having to wake up at 5am and traveling without fret. Always subject to weather conditions and authorities variations of the schedule.
No. We can only offer an upgrade to private basic double room (but always shared bath), for extra $80 usd, in the same rustic hostels. Also in the rustic tour you need to bring your own water, pay for the park entries, bathroom and shower tips.
